About Us

We are a small hobby breeder with a limited breeding program, we do not breed often.  Our goal is to produce good health, stable temperaments, along with conformation that meets the breed standard, and a dog that can excel in any venue, be it show, field, or performance events. We place utmost importance on stable temperaments as first of all these dogs will be loving family members and companions, no matter what other activities they participate in.

Each breeding is of great importance to us, and is well thought out and planned beforehand, with a specific goal in mind. We spend many hours researching pedigrees and lines in order to make the best match possible, with the best foundation lines. Each litter is whelped and raised in our home, a part of our everyday life, and we spend countless hours caring for and socializing our puppies before they go off to their new families. We temperament test each litter at seven weeks of age and make every effort to match each new owner to the puppy suitable for them. We keep our puppies until they are ten weeks of age, we feel the extra time with the litter is invaluable in teaching them correct dog behavior and socialization, as well as human socialization skills.

Each puppy goes home with at least one set of vaccinations and two thorough exams by our veterinarian. Our pups are wormed at 3, 5, and 7 weeks of age. We strive to produce pups free from genetic defects and our adult dogs have been OFA cleared for hips, elbows, thyroid, heart, tested for vonWillebrands, and are CERF clear for eye defects.

Our puppies are sold on either limited registration, spay/neuter contracts, or in the case of show prospects, on co-ownerships. We have a lifetime commitment to each pup we breed and we will take back any puppy at any point in its lifetime, in fact we require in our contract that if a puppy has to be given up for any reason at all, the puppy is to come back to us. We expect to stay in touch with each puppy for its lifetime, to follow its progress and health as this information is invaluable to us when making future breeding decisions. We are available for consultation and are always glad to answer questions about the puppy at any time.

If you are interested in a puppy from Heartsong please check back often to access our Puppies page where we will post litter and planned breeding information along with other announcements. You may contact us at jan@heartsongvizslas.com. We will be happy to discuss a puppy or the breed with you so you can determine if a vizsla is the right breed for you.
